I find making music hard, partly because of the run-up to Christmas taking all of my energy and will to live, and partly because I struggle with getting from loop to full blocked out song.
Which is where song mapping comes in. Basically, it's simple: you import a track into your DAW, then run through it, adding markers where interesting stuff happens. Verse starts here, chorus there, that's a bridge, and a drop over there. Stuff like that. Then you delete the track and stuff your loop's tracks into the map to more or less emulate it.
My next trick will be determining how to generate lead tracks easily. Basslines, rhythm and pad, are pretty easy with my current project, but leads are proving elusive so far.
